Background of the Study
Nigerian Pidgin, as a dynamic lingua franca, exhibits unique morphological features that distinguish it from standard English. With the rapid growth of digital storytelling—especially through vlog narratives—Nigerian Pidgin has emerged as a creative medium for self-expression. Vlogs, characterized by spontaneity and interactivity, encourage vloggers to experiment with morphological variations such as affixation, reduplication, and code-switching to capture their cultural identity and resonate with diverse audiences (Ibrahim, 2023). The informal nature of digital storytelling provides a fertile ground for linguistic innovation where traditional morphological patterns are both preserved and transformed. As vlog narratives evolve, they reflect the socio-cultural and technological influences shaping Nigerian Pidgin, offering insights into how language adapts to modern communication contexts (Okoro, 2024). This adaptation is crucial for understanding the broader implications of digital media on language evolution. Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing influence of Nigerian Pidgin in digital media, there is a dearth of systematic analysis on its morphological adaptations in vlog narratives. Vloggers often manipulate traditional morphological structures to create engaging, relatable content, yet the implications of these modifications for language evolution remain underexplored (Ibrahim, 2023). The informal and rapidly evolving nature of digital content challenges conventional linguistic frameworks and complicates efforts to document consistent morphological trends (Okoro, 2024). Without a comprehensive analysis, the impact of digital storytelling on the traditional structures of Nigerian Pidgin remains poorly understood, hindering efforts to appreciate its evolving role in cultural identity and digital communication (Dada, 2025).
